Ocean Township police recently captured two suspects in a violent armed robbery on a local street. However, two other suspects in the robbery are still at large, with detectives trying to determine their whereabouts.
The suspects allegedly committed the theft offense around 3:00 a.m. on the 1400 block of Maple Avenue in Ocean Township, New Jersey. According to law enforcement, the victims, a couple of 17-year-old Ocean Township teenagers, were walking on the sidewalk when four men pulled up in a 1998 Toyota Corolla, got out of the vehicle, and approached them. One of the suspects reportedly brandished a firearm and pointed the weapon directly at the teen victims while ordering them to hand over their personal possessions. After allegedly stealing sneakers and a cell phone from the teens, the suspects fled the area on foot.
Aftermath of the Armed Robbery: Ocean Township Police Find the Suspects
The victims later found an Ocean Township patrol officer and alerted authorities to the robbery. Ocean Township NJ detectives subsequently investigated the theft crime. The victims provided investigators with detailed descriptions of the suspects, which law enforcement used to track two of the alleged robbers to a home located on Monmouth Road in the Oakhurst part of Ocean Township.
Cops arrested two of the robbery suspects at the house: an 18-year-old Ocean Township man and a 19-year-old Ocean Township man. Although police did not find the remaining two robbery suspects (identified as a 19-year-old Ocean Township man and a 19-year-old Asbury Park man), two other local men were also placed under arrest at the residence because they were allegedly using drugs in the presence of two young children.
The suspects who have already been arrested, as well as the suspects who have yet to be captured, are all likely to face serious criminal charges for their alleged roles in the armed robbery. The suspects in custody have already been charged with the following:
- Armed Robbery
- Obstruction of justice
- Being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS)
- Weapons offenses: One of the suspects has also been charged with illegal possession of a handgun and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose because Ocean Township detectives reportedly found him in possession of the handgun used to commit the robbery
The robbery suspects in custody are currently being held at the Monmouth County Jail in Freehold NJ on bail amounts of $230K and $130K, respectively.
New Jersey CP&P Notified of Child Neglect
The two men who were arrested but not charged in connection with the robbery still face serious criminal charges, including:
- Endangering the welfare of a child
- Drug possession
- Obstruction of justice
- Being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance
Additionally, since authorities determined that the young children at the residence were under the care of the suspects, the NJ Division of Child Protection and Permanency (CP&P) was notified. Depending on the findings of CP&P investigators, it is possible that the suspects will lose custody of their kids.
